I have had this problem for around 2 years now, and I just can't figure out how to fix it.Basically, whenever I try to play old versions of minecraft (Don't judge me, I enjoy it.) they all will crash when I don't have fullscreen on, or some like indev still will crash even when I DO have fullscreen on. Beta and alpha don't crash necessarily, but just lock all keyboard input.

For adding new versions to the Minecraft Launcher, it is as simple as moving the versions folder with the desired jar and json file to the version folder. They all must be named an identical name in an identical folder, for example, in .minecraft/versions create the "11w49a" folder then add the 11w49a.jar and 11w49a.json files inside. The .jar and .json files can be found at the Minecraft Wiki or at the Betacraft archives at the References at the bottom of this page. The installation selection of versions does not automatically update so after adding the folder make sure to close the launcher and reopen it for it to become an option.
Loading a version from 11w49a (1.1 snapshot) to 13w26a (1.6 snapshot) will often cause a crash. This is because of the options.txt in the .minecraft folder. The lang= parameter in the text file is expecting en_US, en_UK, or another uppercase language code but if the last played version was 16w32a (1.11 snapshot) or later the lang= parameter is changed to en_us, en_uk, or another lowercase language code. The options.txt during the aforementioned range cannot read this language and so causes a crash immediately after starting. To fix you can either enter the text file and change the lang= parameter to the capitalized version or just delete the options.txt file because a new one will be created and it is already basically reset in earlier versions (hence why Auto-Jump always turns back on for example). All that is contained in this file is the options of the player from the escape menu.
